La Jolla Institute for Immunology has recently taken a big step forward in our affiliation with the University of California, San Diego by establishing a Program in Immunology that will combine the efforts of the two organizations into one world-class program to promote education, training and research related to the immune system.
Under the leadership of Dr. Mitch Kronenberg from LJI and Dr. Stephen Hedrick from UCSD, the membership of the Program consists of 23 faculty from LJI and more than 40 faculty from UCSD, all experts in their respective fields. By collaborating on efforts ranging from asthma to Zika, the Program will help facilitate the larger goal of expanding our knowledge of the immune system.
To start, the Program will be issuing a request for proposal to all the members of the group to provide funding that will help spark new collaborative efforts between the two organizations. During this time, the Program will also be working through all of the requirements to establish itself in the UC system as a formal program that will be able to enroll, accept and educate graduate students.
“This is an exciting time for LJI and UCSD to bring together some of the things we each do best and blend them together into one powerful program,” say Dr. Mitch Kronenberg, “I look forward to this further establishing San Diego as one of the best places in the world for immunology research.”
